
Clay is a type of fine-grained natural soil material containing clay minerals (hydrous aluminum oxide, iron, silica and other minerals. They are often known as illite, kaolin, montmorillonite, bentonite among other types of minerals.
. Most pure clay minerals are white or light-colored, but natural clays show a variety of colors depending on its minerals present. Due to their fine particle size, when wet they have multiple skin benefits, including:
Absorption of pollutants and toxins
Deep cleansing of skin
Remineralization of skin due to its rich mineral content

Common types of clay:
Montmorillonite Clay: usually in green and brown to black hues, they have the strongest cleansing properties, so it is best suited for normal to oily skin types. The name comes from a region in France where they are typically mined. After use it leaves the skin noticeably softer and smoother.
Bentonite clay is composed of volcanic ash sediments. It acts as a sponge when mixed with water. Frequently used on face masks, foot baths and soak blends. Our glacial clay is composed of Bentonite

Kaolin Clay
It is made of kaolinite and is the mildest of all clays and can be used even in dry sensitive skin. White Kao. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it. It is also known as porcelain clay.
Rhassoul clay is a fine red colored clay from Morocco that is also very gentle in its ability to absorb oil and impurities for the skin. Good for mature and sensitive skins types.
Illite Clay is effective at absorbing oil and impurities from the skin, but milder than montmorillonite and bentonite clays.. It is well suited for oily skin and for exfoliation. Illite clay is similar in structure to montmorillonite and does not expand with water as bentonite does. It is nice when used in soaps as well as face mask.
